I am emailing you today about the plight of pigs in Spain, with an urgent request for your help.
Our investigation team recently visited fifteen pig farms in Spain. What we found could best be described as a catalogue of animal abuse:
  • Animals living in filthy and appallingly cramped conditions.
  • Pigs suffering routine mutilations like tail docking.
  • Completely barren pens, without even so much as straw to occupy the pigs’ inquisitive minds.

  • Routine tail docking and failure to provide adequate ‘enrichment materials’ like straw are both illegal under EU law.
We documented horrendous suffering. To give you a glimpse of these findings, we have made a short film which you can watch by clicking here. Please be aware that you may find our footage distressing. Sadly, we believe that this is very much a representation of pig farms in many European nations.
Please help us raise awareness of this awful suffering. We must make those in power take urgent action to change European Pig farming for the better. No animal should have to live like this.
Today, we need your help to target the Spanish Agriculture Minister.
This is a key moment in our fight to help Europe’s pigs. Ministers and officials are meeting on the 8th March in Brussels to discuss the development of pig farming in Europe. That’s why we need you to take the time now to send the Spanish Minster an urgent message, urging him to watch our short investigation film and to ensure immediate action is taken to place animal welfare at the heart of Spanish pig farming.
