If you haven't heard about dog hunting yet, brace yourself. It's an insane underground "sport" in Russia, in which hunters lay out traps filled with poisoned meat in parks to kill dogs.
In September, more than 70 dead dogs were poisoned in a week at a single park, as reported by The Star. Moscow's Green Lead Movement estimates that more than 1,500 stray and domestic dogs have been killed in the last few years, according to the Moscow Times.
Last two months the activity of Russian dog hunters increased significantly. They threw poisoned meat in public places and spray the grass with some poisonous liquid, which can be dangerous for people as well. Dogs were dying in horrible torments: the foam from the mouth, vomiting reflexes and convulsions...

And read the story of Vera Lesovets held up photographs of her dog, Yasha, a spunky 5-year-old corgi, nipping playfully at the heels of a German shepherd twice her size.
But Yasha's life was cut short this week: After snacking on something in a Moscow park, she fell into a seizure at Lesovets' apartment and began foaming at the mouth. The family rushed her to a nearby animal clinic, where the veterinarian said this was the sixth case he had seen that week, and there was nothing he could do.
