Russian city Sochi is allows to kill about two thousand street dogs and cats for the Winter Olympic Games of 2014.
The city on the shores of the Black Sea will make 42,500 euros on killing of the animals.
"We have an obligation to the international community", defends the regional parliament Sergei Krivonossov themselves.
"We have an obvious problem with animals living on the streets," said Krivonossov. "Exterminating is the fastest way to solve the problem."
Animal activists protested for the decision and called for other solutions, such as sterilization.
Also for Euro 2012 in Poland and Ukraine led reports on the killing of street animals to international outrage and even a boycott of the tournament.
