Despite the dairy industry’s multi-million dollar advertising campaigns (Got Milk?), government-sponsored programs that push milk, and even ridiculous efforts to slam non-dairy alternatives, milk consumption in the US is steadily declining. In fact, a recent report from the US Department of Agriculture confirms that each generation drinks less and less milk than the one prior.
Simply put, Americans are moo-ving on. And as a growing number of us are ditching dairy in favor of healthier and more humane options, companies everywhere are increasingly responding to this dairy-free demand.
Case in point: Smoothie King just announced that in all of its 700 stores worldwide, consumers will now find new all-vegan protein-packed smoothies!
According to Wan Kim, owner and CEO of Smoothie King: “Statistics show a growing interest in plant-based diets among all consumers, both vegan and non-vegan. By introducing these new menu options, we are catering to guests who seek plant-based protein in their diets.”
The two options you’ll find on the menu now are Mango Kale Smoothie and Dark Chocolate Banana Smoothie – both made with Sunwarrior vegan protein powder. The company says this is the “initial rollout” suggesting that more vegan options could be on the way!
A few weeks ago, we also shared the exciting news that after hearing from consumers requesting a dairy-free alternative for coffee, Dunkin’ Donuts, with more than 7,500 locations throughout the US, is now offering almond milk!
Last year, TCBY, the nation’s largest retailer of soft-serve frozen yogurt, started dishing out a non-dairy option made with almond milk. It was met with so much success that the company quickly expanded its dairy-free menu in all of its more than 400 locations from coast to coast.
You’ll also find several dairy-free yogurt flavors at hundreds of Tutti Frutti locations across the US.
Who’s next? Maybe Ben & Jerry’s – with enough consumer requests via this new Change.org petition. Sign now to help these dessert greats “moo-ve” on from milk!
