In March 2016, Delta Airlines will no longer allow pets to be checked
as baggage on their flights. According to Wednesday's publication of Market Watch, the change in airline policy follows the death of 74 pets over the past decade on Delta flights.
Notice of the rule change is currently on the Delta Airlines website, which states, "Effective
March 1st, 2016 Delta will only accept the following animals as checked
baggage: (1) pets for members of the US military and their dependents
with active transfer orders; and (2) service and emotional support
animals that comply with federal regulations, including proper
documentation based on current policies and procedures."
Individuals who are unable to take their pet in the main cabin can still make travel arrangements through Delta Cargo
Travelers interested in Delta Cargo are encouraged to call the airline at 1-800-352-2746 FREE for information and assistance.
