1 Aug 2014 — Progress has been made!
Following the release of shocking hidden-camera footage by Mercy For
Animals Canada at one of the country’s largest veal farms showing calves
being viciously kicked, beaten, and locked inside filthy, narrow crates
so small they couldn’t turn around, the Ontario Veal Association has
just publicly announced that it is recommending the phase-out of
inherently cruel veal crates at its member facilities by 2018. This is a
sure sign that our pressure is working and we're on the right track!
However,
more action is needed! To ensure that the anti-veal crate policy
recommendations are implemented and enforced, we must continue to call
on the Retail Council of Canada, which represents all of the major
grocery chains in the country, to implement a new policy that prohibits
the sale of veal from crated calves at all member grocers by 2018 — a
policy already supported by most of its members.
So please
continue sharing the petition urging The Retail Council of Canada to
take a stand a stand against egregious cruelty to animals by prohibiting
its veal suppliers from using inherently cruel veal crates.
Thank you!
