Louise was rescued from the cruelty of the backyard butcher. She lived there for a long time without adequate food, water or shelter. She saw horrible things done to other animals and is very scared of humans. We rescued her just in time to have her baby, SusieQ. She will get to raise and love her baby girl for the rest of her life. One day we will be able to brush and hug her and show her the love that she deserves! We need to buy hay this week, and with 170 mouths to feed we need your help. If you haven’t already, can you help us buy a bale of hay for only $16? Hay on the west coast is expensive and we cannot do this without you. Thank you so much! Go to: https://www.gentlebarn.org/donate.php Thanks to all of you who have donated already!

Lilly was a breeding pig. She had her food thrown to her and her babies taken away. When she was too old to breed she was sent to the pound to be put to sleep. It took us a year, but we were finally able to pet her and give her the love she deserves. Lilly is now 23 years old, rolls over for tummy rubs and has finally found a family at The Gentle Barn that won’t be taken away. Lela (the goat standing up) was rescued from the backyard butcher with her mother. She was so sick when we found her, riddled with parasites, emaciated, with an eye infection, a runny nose and a high fever. It took weeks for her to get well. Now she is very friendly and healthy, and even jumps up on us to get treats and hugs. To sponsor a Gentle Barn animal, go to: http://gentlebarn.org/virtual_barn.php

Premarin is a drug that women take in menopause and is made from a pregnant horse’s urine. The pregnant horse cannot move for 8 months while her urine is taken by a catheter. They don’t want the babies, they just want the pregnant urine, so when the babies are born the babies are rounded up and sent to slaughter. Lazar and his twin sister were rescued at the last minute. They will get to be together for the rest of their lives at The Gentle Barn. To sponsor a Gentle Barn animal, go to: http://gentlebarn.org/virtual_barn.php
Two weeks ago this dove showed up and he has made The Gentle Barn his home. He seems like an angel and we are so blessed! Of course we are making sure he has all the food and water he desires.

King Duke was rescued from wandering the desert with his sister, Duchess. With no food, water or shelter, they were desperate and exhausted. They were terrified of us at first but soon learned to trust us and even eat out of our hands. They now fill our barnyard with grace and beauty and we are grateful to have them. Karma was rescued from the backyard butcher where she had no food or shelter, filthy water and enormous stress. Karma cried all through the night that first day, and we could not figured out why until we saw milk dripping from her the next morning and realized she had a baby. We were able to save her baby too and this is their reunion. If you haven’t seen this, it’s a must watch! http://youtu.be/wV92bw6Np24
Today we had a lovely group of 7th and 8th graders who learned all about animals and how we are more alike than we are different. None of them had hugged a cow before and were so excited!
During their investigation, animal control confiscated Julian from the backyard butcher when he was about 6 weeks old because his mom was so sick they had to euthanize her. Julian almost died from a broken heart and fear. But he is a survivor, very affectionate and cuddly and now we get to be his family for the rest of his life! He has lots of cow friends and loves to snuggle with all of us. To sponsor a Gentle Barn animal, go to: http://gentlebarn.org/virtual_barn.php
