According to Monday's edition of KENS 5 News, many animals were destroyed today in San Antonio, Texas, due to over-crowded conditions at both the city's animal control facility, and the no-kill organization, San Antonio Pets Alive (SAPA).
San Antonio Pets Alive, the no-kill rescue organization which strives to eliminate healthy animals from being destroyed in the city, is currently filled to capacity, which means that if the animals on the "E-list" at the city shelter cannot be moved out, they are put down.
According to the publication, ten animals were put down today by animal services.
Currently, the website for the City of San Antonio Animal Services shows a staggering 337 dogs. Unfortunately, the killings will continue until adoptions outpace the number of incoming dogs and cats.
According to San Antonio Pets Alive's Heather Howell:
"When we are to capacity and have no more space, we can't fulfill our mission because the dogs can't come to us,"According to the KENS 5 News publication, though San Antonio strives to be a no-kill city, approximate 20,000 animals were destroyed last year.
