Grâce à votre soutien généreux et celui d’autres fidèles membres de PETA, ainsi qu'aux efforts de nos affiliées internationales partout dans le monde, ceux qui utilisent les animaux pour de cruelles expériences en laboratoire ont récemment rencontré d’énormes embuches. Nous autres qui nous opposons à la souffrance et à la mort douloureuse des animaux et soutenant plutôt l'utilisation de méthodes modernes de tests sans animaux, pouvons en être ravis !

Tout d'abord, je suis ravie de vous annoncer que suite à des campagnes vigoureuses, China Eastern Airlines a informé PETA États-Unis qu'à partir du 1er mars, elle ne transportera plus de primates vers à destination de laboratoires pour être utilisés dans des expérimentations cruelles et mortelles ! En prenant cette décision pleine de compassion, la compagnie rejoint Air China, China Southern Airlines et presque toutes les compagnies aériennes du monde refusant de transporter des singes vers les laboratoires. Cela veut aussi dire que les expérimentateurs en Europe et aux États-Unis se retrouvent sans une seule compagnie pour transporter des primates depuis la Chine !

 

 

Cette merveilleuse nouvelle arrive à peine quelques jours avant que n'entre en vigueur une nouvelle interdiction de poids qui sauvera des animaux de la torture, de la mutilation et de la mort pour des produits cosmétiques.

La nouvelle interdiction de l'Union Européenne sur la vente des cosmétiques testés sur les animaux effective depuis le 11 mars dernier est une célébration pour les animaux, les consommateurs ainsi que la science à la fois en France et à travers le monde !

En 2009, l'UE a signé la fin des tests sur les animaux pour les cosmétiques avec ses états-membres. Cette interdiction nouvellement effective a permis une belle avancée, en garantissant qu'aucun produit cosmétique vendu dans l'UE ni ses ingrédients n'ont été testés sur des animaux, ni dans l'UE ni ailleurs. L'interdiction aura un véritable impact mondial puisque les entreprises du monde entier devront dorénavant certifier que leurs produits ne sont pas cruellement testés sur les animaux si elles souhaitent commercialiser leurs produits sur l'immense marché européen.

Plus de 1300 entreprises dans le monde ont proscrit les tests sur les animaux, mais en dépit d'importantes victoires comme les deux que j'ai mis en évidence ici, de nombreuses entreprises choisissent encore de soumettre des animaux à des expériences douloureuses durant lesquelles des substances sont enduites sur leur peau, pulvérisées sur leur visage ou introduites de force au fond de leur gorge, ce qui conduit souvent à des résultats qui ne sont pas fiables. Avec votre aide, nous continuerons de faire pression sur ceux qui pratiquent ces expériences mortelles et nous ne nous arrêterons pas jusqu'à ce que plus aucun animal ne souffre derrière les portes des laboratoires.

Un chien, fraîchement adopté, s'est enfui pour aller retrouver son âme-sœur dans un refuge pour animaux, à Terre Haute, dans l'Indiana. Il a parcouru plus de 16 kilomètres pour retourner auprès de sa moitié.
Les histoires d'amour entre animaux n'existent pas que chez Disney. Pour preuve, ce chien, Ben, qui a parcouru plus de 16 kilomètres pour retrouver sa moitié. Ils vivaient dans le même refuge, mais leur rencontre remontait bien avant ce sauvetage. Les deux chiens erraient ensemble dans l'Indiana avant de se retrouver dans le refuge, Terre Haute Humane Society, au moment de la grossesse de Jade. Les deux animaux sont restés inséparables.

Les deux animaux avaient pour habitude d'être toujours collés l'un à l'autre et Ben ne supportait pas de se retrouver sans Jade. Alors, lorsque ce dernier a été adopté, il n'a pas supporté de vivre dans sa nouvelle famille loin de sa moitié, Jade. Il s'est donc enfui en plein hiver pour aller la retrouver au refuge.
Ben avait tout de même essayé de s'adapter à sa nouvelle vie. Seulement, loin de sa moitié, le chien vivait de plus en plus mal cette séparation. D'ailleurs, ses propriétaires avaient remarqué que l'animal s'éloignait d'eux de plus en plus: "Nous l'avons eu pendant environ trois semaines, et on pensait qu'il allait bien, mais il se détachait sur ​​nous", raconte Courtney Lawler à NBC2News.
Il ne lui a pas fallu plus de 24h pour retrouver Jade.
Déterminé à rejoindre Jade, Ben n'a pas mis plus de 24h pour retourner au refuge. Il a su s'orienter et retrouver sa compagne jusqu'au refuge. Quand il est arrivé à destination, sa maîtresse raconte que les chiens léchaient la clôture comme s'ils s'embrassaient. Touché par ce petit couple, les Lawler ont décidé d’accepter Jade également. Les deux canins ont donc trouvé leur place au sein du foyer de ce couple.
L'histoire d'amour entre ces deux chiens fait bien évidement remettre en question ce sentiment que l'on pensait jusque-là propre aux humains. Jade et ben sont donc l'exemple type qui prouve que l'amour entre animaux est loin d'être un mythe. Courtney Lawler explique cette situation. Privés de l'amour humain, ces deux chiens ont selon elle développé ce sentiment l'un envers l'autre.

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Oklahoma's 50-year-old ban on horse slaughtering was lifted Friday when the governor signed a new law that will allow facilities to process and export horse meat, despite bitter opposition by animal rights activists.
Supporters argue that a horse slaughtering facility in Oklahoma will provide a humane alternative for aging or starving horses, many of which are abandoned in rural parts of the state by owners who can no longer afford to care for them. Gov. Mary Fallin also noted that horses are already being shipped out of the country, including to facilities in Mexico, where they are processed in potentially inhumane conditions.
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, more than 166,000 horses were sent to Canada and Mexico last year alone.
"In Oklahoma, as in other states, abuse is tragically common among horses that are reaching the end of their natural lives," the Republican governor said. "Those of us who care about the wellbeing of horses – and we all should – cannot be satisfied with a status quo that encourages abuse and neglect, or that rewards the potentially inhumane slaughter of animals in foreign countries."
She noted that law strictly prohibits the selling of horse meat for human consumption in the U.S.
Similar efforts are under way in other states, but not without controversy. In New Mexico, a processing plant has been fighting the U.S. Department of Agriculture for more than a year for approval to convert its former cattle slaughter operation into a horse slaughterhouse. In Nevada, state agriculture officials have discussed ways to muster support for the slaughter of free-roaming horses, stirring protests.
The Oklahoma legislation received bipartisan support and was approved by wide margins in both the state House and Senate. It also was backed by several agriculture organizations including the Oklahoma Farm Bureau, the Oklahoma Cattlemen's Association and American Farmers.
But animal rights groups fought hard against the plan, including the Humane Society of the United States. Cynthia Armstrong, the organization's Oklahoma state director, said she was disappointed.
"It's a very sad day for Oklahoma and the welfare of the horses that will be exposed to a facility like this," Armstrong said. "It's very regrettable."

In addition to animal welfare concerns, opponents have said slaughtering horses for human consumption could pose a threat to human health and safety. American horses are often treated with drugs and medications that are not approved for use in animals intended for food.
Horse slaughter opponents are pushing legislation in Congress to ban domestic slaughter, as well as the export of horses to other countries for slaughter. Many animal humane groups and public officials are outraged at the idea of resuming domestic slaughter. But others – including some horse rescuers, livestock associations and the American Quarter Horse Association – support the plans.
They point to a 2011 report from the federal Government Accountability Office that shows horse abuse and abandonment have been increasing since Congress effectively banned horse slaughter by cutting funding for federal inspection programs in 2006. They say the ban on domestic slaughter has led to tens of thousands of horses being shipped to inhumane slaughterhouses in Mexico.
Although there are no horse slaughtering facilities in Oklahoma, the Humane Society said the USDA has received an application for horse slaughter inspection permits from a meat company in Washington, Okla., about 40 miles south of Oklahoma City.
Fallin said her administration will work with the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture to ensure that any horse meat processing plant in the state is run appropriately, follows state and local laws, and does not pose a hazard to the community. The law takes effect Nov. 1.
"It's important to note cities, counties and municipalities still have the ability to express their opposition to processing facilities by blocking their construction and operation at the local level," the governor said.

Dairy farming would have us believe that the unnatural breaking of the bond between a mother cow and her calf is somehow natural because it is better for the health and safety of the animals. Here’s a case in point.
Consider the typical logic in the Wagner Farm post that attempts to justify why mother cow Emma and baby calf Schmidt must be separated at birth.

Wagner Farm: “Schmidt gets a bottle of his mom’s milk once in the morning and again in the evening. Since Emma gets milked only once a day right now, her milk must be saved and reheated just like it is for a baby.”
Me: Her milk would not need to be reheated or treated in any way if her calf was allowed to suckle directly. The risk of transmitting pathogens to the calf comes primarily from manmade milking machinery (which nature did not account for). Can a calf get pathogens from her mother’s milk? Sure. But there are also powerful antibodies in that milk designed by nature to prevent infection, and heating the milk just kills off nature’s natural defenses.

A small Minnesota dairy farm, Orange Patch Dairy, responds to the question from a concerned vegan: Why do you take the calves from their mothers? Following are key passages from Orange Patch Dairy in quotes and my response below each passage.

Farmer: “I had a comment on one of my earlier posts where a concerned vegan had an issue with dairy farmers removing calves from their mothers. I thought about this practice and how misunderstood it actually is.”

The farmer goes on to describe the birthing of a new calf.

Farmer: “Ruthie [a new baby calf] was placed in a freshly bedding stall, where she could be clean and free of pathogens. Just like babies born at a hospital and placed in a nursery.”

The obvious difference here is that the calf will never be returned to her mother, of course, completely unlike what happens to human mothers and their newborns in a nursery setting. The farmer conveniently omitted that little bit of information.
