Chinese Activists Brave subzero temperatures to rescue 150 more dogs!

This has been an incredible week
On Feb 4th a big truck of pet dogs was stopped Qinhuangdao, Hebei province, China, Volunteers risked arrest to ensure the dogs were saved and were horrified to discover close to the scene further dogs in terrible conditions in a dog meat trading yard.
Volunteers refused to give up and braved the freezing cold temperatures to stay close to the dogs as their waited pitifully for help. They knew if these poor souls were sent to 21 day quarantine centres they would die.
The police starting imposing impossible demands, suggesting the only way owners could get their dogs back was to come forward with solid proof of ownership. Desperate, the volunteers even tried to buy the dogs from the traders.
Finally, due to huge public pressure internationally and the tenacity of these amazing Chinese Activists the 150 surviving dogs were released and could safely be taken to rescue centres. This truck was on its way to from Heilongjiang province in North-East China, where dog meat restaurants thrive.
We all focus on disgraceful Yulin Festival ( which is in the South of China) but this horror of stolen pets or rounded up homeless dogs goes on all year round !
What is difficult for the rescuers is that police & government officials do not even know the dog and cat meat trade is illegal and even when they do often deliberately flout weak laws in favour of profit.
Until firm animal protection laws and harsh penalties are in place the position in China is that dogs can be transported by traders with fake quarantine certificates and the profits from this black market industry makes it hard for many to ever want to give up.
Over the last few months NoToDogMeat ( World Protection for Dogs and Cats in the Meat Trade) has been working closely with local activists and rescuers alike and we are currently in-undated with requests for financial help ( one shelter alone has over 1000 dogs).
Where we can we publish details so donations can be sent directly to shelters and we also issue grants directly.
Shortly before Chinese New Year we will launch our #BuyABag Campaign to provide food and help with medical supplies. We will also be out on the streets making some noise until we are heard !
Please consider supporting our work with a regular monthly donation             ( however small) or buying a t shirt or hoody.  http://www.notodogmeat.com.donate.php
